Lastly, my last journal entry said I had written a play entitled, "The Narrator is a Narcissist?" and that I was entering it into my school's annual Drama Districts competition. There my script went up against at least 30 other plays that were read by two judges. At Districts, I sat down and discussed my play with the judges for 10 minutes, going over basic ideas and how to improve what I had created. The male judge was practically in love with my play calling it the funniest thing he has ever read from a student's work. The female judge was one of those, "do things one way and if you don't, then they aren't right at all," kinds of college English professors. Later at closing ceremonies, we all found out how we all did in all of our individual events, from acting to playwrighting to costuming. The points system that the Districts competition used was in the following fashion: poor = 1, fair = 2, good = 3, excellent = 4, and superior = 5. There were also Critic Choices, which is the most prestigious award, it means that you were chosen as the best of that category by the judges of that category. Well to sum up this story, I found out from my adjudication sheet that I had received a Superior rating from the male judge, but only a Good rating from the female judge. So the combined rating balanced out to an Excellent... which is still a very good rating considering the amount of plays turned into the competition. It sucks that the female judge gave me a good, had she given me an excellent, I could have gone to States competition in May. But oh well, I guess I'll just take my excellent rating and go on and publish my play now.
